The unprecedented boom in high-tech jobs has not been equally shared. Women and minorities are being excluded from participation in this growth. According to the US EEOC, compared to the overall private sector, the high-tech sector employs a smaller share of African Americans (14.4 percent to 7.4 percent), Hispanics (13.9 percent to 8 percent), and women (48 percent to 36 percent). The percentages are even lower when looking at just the tech roles across. It is very clear that the rules of the game are lopsided. Large companies across America are waking up to this diversity challenge in tech and are instituting programs to correct this gap. However, they need significant partnership from the supply side as well.

BayOne is committed to doing our bit to fixing the lopsided rules of the game. Since 2019 we have been running our #MakeTechPurple drive to bring in more women into the tech workforce, through reskilling cohorts, webinars and meetups.

BayOne announces the appointment of diversity champion Henry Childs II into our Board of Advisors. At his previous role as the National Director of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), Henry created large-scale programs to bring minority and women enterprises into the Digital age. With Henry’s vision and deep industry relationships, we intend to create a powerful alliance to help large companies meet their diversity objectives in tech.

BayOne founder Rahul Sharma welcomed Henry Childs II with this message, “Henry is a visionary in the development of diversity businesses and talent. Our shared passion for diversity in tech is a force for good in today’s world.”

Commenting on his inclusion into BayOne’s Board of Advisors, Henry Childs II said, “Post-millennials are the youngest, most ethnically diverse and largest generation in American History. Companies know that in order to truly attract top talent and appeal to a wider audience, they need to be proactive about having a diverse workforce. I am excited to join BayOne. I share BayOne’s vision to help large corporations have a more diverse and inclusive workforce.”
